The go-to question for celebrities used to be, “What’s in your handbag?” but now it’s more like, “What’s in your blender?” Adriana Lima whips up three ingredients to jump-start her mornings, Kate Middleton mixes berries and almond milk to curb sugar cravings, and Kourtney Kardashian cocktails a smoothie full of healthy fat.
Not to be outdone, Jessica Alba, actress and founder of Honest Beauty, has her own favorite recipe designed especially for when her skin is breaking out.
“My go-to nutritional guru is Kelly LeVeque, so I always turn to her for advice,” says Alba. She explains that LeVeque—who’s all about fighting inflammation—believes that the key ingredients to add to your smoothie are omega-3 fatty acids (found in chia seeds) for complexion hydration, B vitamins (found in spinach) to promote skin health, and trace minerals that help repair, protect, and promote cell regeneration.
Alba has definitely dealt with acne just like you and I—but she admits it’s not as bad as it used to be. “I’ve been able to control it over time with a consistent skin-care routine,” she says. When flare-ups happen (because they do), Alba whips up LeVeque’s Spa Smoothie, which is full of greens and other skin boosters:
Ingredients:
1/4 avocado
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1 small Persian cucumber
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
1 handful of spinach (fresh or frozen)
1 lemon, juiced
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (organic pea or collagen)
2 cups unsweetened nut milk
1/4 avocado
2 Tbsp chia seeds
1 small Persian cucumber
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
1 handful of spinach (fresh or frozen)
1 lemon, juiced
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (organic pea or collagen)
2 cups unsweetened nut milk
A solution to sip your way to brighter skin? We can all drink to that.
