This month, I invited Rodan + Fields Consultants to share their personal anti-aging tips, and then we asked Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields to weigh in on whether these habits can actually help you achieve a more youthful look. Take a peek and see if there are any skincare and lifestyle changes you might put to use in 2016 on your journey to Decide Today How Tomorrow Looks.
Lisa Medora: Refined sugar and alcohol consumption can age skin. I tell all my clients to either eliminate or reduce their daily intake for younger-looking skin—also hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
The Doctors’ Response: True: Healthy eating can make a big difference in how you feel and how you look. Eating and drinking starchy, sugary, or simple carbs—like potatoes, rice, chips, or crackers—can cause glycation, a form of damage to your skin’s collagen.
JM Hilton: I do my best to eat a well-balanced diet with an emphasis on fresh fruits and veggies, and I drink plenty of water, especially in the colder months. I have become a faithful back sleeper since becoming a Consultant—much easier with a pillow under my knees.
The Doctors’ Response: Thumbs way up on both! Sleep on your back, eat a healthy diet of full of leafy greens, lean proteins and fresh fruit to feel great and look young.
Wendy Dean Cole: It’s all about being consistent, using the REDEFINE AMP MD regularly and the REDEFINE MACRO E once a week. I use REDEFINE Multi-Function Eye Cream twice a day. I NEVER wear makeup other than eyeliner, mascara and lipstick. Can I say that I love the compliments that I get? Yes!
The Doctors’ Response: Congrats on your consistency. What you do every day will have a greater benefit for your skin’s appearance than almost any procedure you could do in our offices on an occasional basis.
Jennifer Timko Lofland: Washing my face every night before bed, lots of water, healthy eating, good sleep and my UNBLEMISH and REDEFINE Regimens.
The Doctors’ Response: Your skin should stay looking clear and young given your faithful use of the products that are right for your skin concern. Nightly cleansing is important for everyone because pollution has been shown to cause free radical formation and premature aging.
Judy Micheli Hopkins: I drink LOTS of water and green tea. I always try and get my beauty sleep of 7-8 hours a night and eat a healthy diet.
The Doctors’ Response: Yes to adequate sleep—your cells undergo repair and turn over slightly faster while you rest, helping your face look bright and refreshed. Be careful not to obsess over water consumption. There is no proof that 8 ounces 8 times a day is needed. You can drink too much water and dilute nutrients internally.
Ando Springer Huffman: Daily exercise does wonders for my sanity and those around me.
The Doctors’ Response: Exercise is a wonderful stress reducer, but avoid high impact forms, such as daily running which may cause skin to sag.
Ceci Urrutia Salaveria: By keeping and maintaining positive thoughts, I can always look forward to improvement in every aspect of my life…no matter what the present reality is.
The Doctors’ Response: Not stressing about your skin is key. When our bodies respond to stress, blood, nutrients and oxygen are directed to vital areas such as our legs and away from the organs such as skin, creating dark under-eye circles and an ashen or sallow appearance
Kimberly Delk Strange: I now carry Rodan + Fields sunscreen in my car along withREDEFINE Eye Cloths to use after work or the gym. At 4:30 a.m. when I have not slept well, I have small ice packs for my eyes.
The Doctors’ Response: It’s always a good idea to remove makeup before you exercise. You can even use the Eye Cloths on your whole face. Love that you reapply your sunscreen, but avoid keeping your sunscreen in the car. Prolonged heat can easily destabilize skincare products, rendering them less effective.
Darcey Chorney: My Rodan + Fields products and embracing my age, my weight and even my gray hair! I’ve never been happier in my life than I am now.
The Doctors’ Response: Absolutely—your smile is your best accessory.
