In 2002, a couple of well known dermatologists, Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields, began selling their anti-aging skincare line in high end department stores. It did very well and was the #1 clinical brand sold. But their sales reps gave them some very intuitive feedback - this is a consultative sale, not just a pop in and out and pick up what you bought last time product. Our skin is always changing and its needs are changing - dry skin, acne, lines, wrinkles, sensitive skin, dullness, sun spots, etc. They suggested that this skincare line be sold 1:1 between a consultant and customer. At the time this was unheard of, to sell such a high end product this way. They took a chance and it has paid off.
